Forestry to Conserve and Nourish Green

71% of Akita's total area is made up of forest, part of which includes the largest man-made Japanese cedar forest in Japan. In order to care for our forests, we thin them regularly and are establishing a program called the 'Grand Green Design', to preserve and create forested areas.

We are also working hard to recruit and train a new generation of forest workers, and we are establishing cost-efficient and high-yielding harvesting methods by building roads and introducing advanced forestry equipment.

We are making great efforts to increase demand for Akita's lumber, and promote the use of new technology that has been developed by the Institute of Advanced Wood Processing Technology. Our goal is to become one of Japan's leading contributors to the development of forestry management and harvesting techniques.
