Value-added productivity in Akita's manufacturing sector ranks low compared with other prefectures. We established "Akita Production Vision" in fiscal year 1998 to bolster Akita's companies' creativity and vitality. On the basis of this vision, we create new projects and offer business environment for the companies that would like to try new projects, as well as support business innovation in accordance with companies' needs and economic trend.

The Industrial Technology Center and the Akita Institute of Advanced Technology help to create new industries by developing unique technology, conducting joint-research with companies in the prefecture, and creating new products from the results. These institutions also offer technical assistance in their laboratories.

In April 2000, a support center for Akita's trading and industrial entities opened in Prefectural Office annex, in order to offer comprehensive support to new entrepreneurs and existing companies that would like to carry out management innovation. In partnership with research institutes, universities, business groups and financial groups, this center offers various support services including technology development, cultivation of market and personnel training.
