Mass production, consumption, and disposal have created various environmental problems in our society. To help solve them, Akita Prefecture encourages environmental studies and activities in schools, and promotes the use of new types of energy that utilize wind power, solar energy, and the cryogenic potential of snow.

By caring for our farmlands and forests, we are protecting the environment of Akita so that our children will be able to enjoy and benefit from it as much as we have. An example of this is the establishment of 'Green Corridors' between forests to maintain and increase their functionality.

In order to reduce and recycle various kinds of mass waste, we tackle conversion of our society to a new commonwealth of resource recycling, by various means including recycling of home appliances.
