◆History of Akita prefecture

・Until this place became Akita prefecture

Akita prefecture was controlled by samurais whose names were Mr. Ando and Mr. Satake.
Akita was first appeared in the history when Dewakuni was settled in 712.(Wado 5).
Mr. Yoshinori Satake was ordered to transfer from Hitachi (now Ibaraki pref.) to Dewa-Akita in 1602 (Keichou 7) and built the Kubota castle ( now Sensyuu park).
Feudal societies were changed to a modern state by Meijiishin, and Akita was named in 1871(Meiji 4) after Haihanchiken.
・Akita in Meiji (1868-1911)

1868 (Meiji 1)Name of era was changed from Keio to Meiji.
1871 (Meiji 4)Akita prefecture was made by uniting 5 prefectures (Kameda, Yashima, Iwasaki, Honjou, and Akita) and (Esashiken) after Haihanchiken.
1878 (Meiji11)The first exchange of rice seed meeting was held.
1905 (Meiji38)Railroad" Ouhonsen" (Aomori to Fukushima) was opened.
1910 (Meiji43)Captain Shirase and his men explored to The Antarctic continet.
・Akita in Taisho(1912-1925)

1912 (Taisho 1)Name of era was changed to Taisho.
1923 (Taisho12)The great earthquake hit the Tokyo area.
1924 (Taisho13)Railroad "Uetuhonsen"(Akita to Niitu) was opened.
・Akita in Showa (1926-1988)

1926 (Showa 1)Name of era was changed to Showa.
1935 (Showa10)Crude oil gushed out from the Omonogawa oil well.Yabase oil well began to come very active.
1941 (Showa16)The Pacific War broke out.
1945 (Showa20)Port of Tutizaki in Akita was attacked(August 14) and The war ended.
1946 (Showa21)Norvember 3, The Constitution of Japan came into force.
1947 (Showa22)First time a prefectures governor was elected by people.
1955 (Showa30)First time in Japan the experiment of rocket lifting was succeeded.
1957 (Showa32)Akita's prefecture office building was burned out which was built in 1880.
1969 (Showa36)The 16th Kokutai (National physical education) was open in Akita city.
1977 (Showa44)The reclamation work of Hachirogata was completed, and new village Ohgata was born.
1981 (Showa56)New Akita Air Port was opened.
1983 (Showa58)The earthquake hit Nihonkaichubu(central part of Sea of Japan side) 83 were died or missing.

1989 (Heisei 1)Name of era was changed to Heisei.
1991 (Heisei 3)Akita highway from Akita to Yokote was opened.
1992 (Heisei 4)The constraction of Akita Shinkansen started.
1997 (Heisei 9)Akita Shinkansen was opened.
