Akita Prefectural Research and Development Center
The Akita Prefectural Research and Development Center was established on the 9th May 2005 following the merger of Akita Prefectural Industrial Technology Center and Akita Research Institute of Advanced Technology. Following the merger the Akita Prefectural Research and Development Center has functioned as a technology "Think Tank" supporting the ongoing revitalization of industry in Akita Prefecture.
The Center's three main sections- The General Coordination and Policy Planning Department, the Industrial Technology Center and the Research Institute of Advanced Technology.

Institute for Mining Studies and Research
Located in Kosaka Town, which was used to be one of the most important mining communities in Japan, the Institute for Mining Studies and Research now plays a central role as a research institute involved in North Akita's Eco-Town project. The Institute also conducts research and development focused on metal recycling, which is a key industry in the region, as well as providing technical training for both domestic and foreign metallurgy specialists.

Institute of Wood Technology
The Institute of Wood Technology, located in Noshiro City, was established with the aim of research and development (R&D) into both recycled and non-recycled lumber materials based on the principle of efficient use of lumber resources in the global environment. The Institute of Wood Technology actively pursues the proliferation of technological knowledge gained from its extensive research directly to the lumber industry, conducts collaborative studies with companies and welcomes the input of technical experts from firms.
The institute belongs to the Graduate School of Biostudies of Akita Prefectural University and from April of 2003 has been offering variety of graduate level courses to graduate students as well as researchers from companies in order to foster human resources with high level technical and research skills.

Akita Research Institute of Food and Brewing (ARIF)
ARIF conducts independent research on applied fermentation, food product development, alcoholic beverage development and biotechnology. In addition, it engages in joint research with companies, conducts on-site technical guidance, holds seminars and training sessions for human resource development, and provides information about food products. ARIF thus serves as a center for food product development utilizing the very latest applications in science and technology while remaining committed to Akita's land and environment.

Akita Research Institute of Brain and Blood Vessels
In addition to its world reputation as a facility providing the highest quality research on stroke and stroke therapy the Akita Research Institute of Brain and Blood Vessels also houses a record containing information on the largest number of strokes in Japan. We are currently using this data to create a network with the eventual goal of stroke prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle. The results of individual screening exams and medical advice can be accessed at any time in any place by using mobile phone or computer.
