Mt. Chokai (Nikaho City, Yurihonjo City)
This mountain, also called Dewa Fuji, or Mt. Fuji of Dewa, is the second highest in the Tohoku Region, measuring 2,236 meters at its peak. Mt. Chokai as well as the many scenic spots and tourist sites in the outskirts is designated as a Quasi-National Park, and visitors find here a treasure trove of alpine plants. |

Shirakami-Sanchi (Fujisato Town, Happo Town)
This vast mountain range with its vast old-grown beech forests straddles the border between Akita and Aomori prefectures. The UNESCO designated the Shirakami-Sanchi as a World Heritage site in 1993. |

Oga Peninsula/ Cape Nyudozaki

Sashimaki Marsh (Senboku City)
Around sixty thousand mizubasho grow abundantly throughout the marsh. Their flowers turn the marsh all but white between mid April to early May.

Subsoil waters from Mt. Chokai well up at Detsubo. Along with that of neighboring Moto-taki Falls in the Chokai Quasi-National Park, this water has been designated as among the top 100 waters of Japan in the Heisei Period (1989 - ).

Lake Tazawa

Agariko Daio

This tree is over 300 years old and 7.62 meters in circumference. The dominating presence of the tree has given it the title of Great King among the uniquely shaped beech trees (agariko) found in Nakajimadai Recreational Forest.

Yasu-no-taki Falls (Kitaakita City)
With its two-stage cascades, Yasu-no-taki is one of the top 100 waterfalls of Japan. The falls and the surrounding trees create an exquisite landscape be they clad in the fresh green in spring or the flaming colors of autumn.

Dakigaeri Gorge

Dakigaeri is one of the most scenic gorges in the Tohoku region with scattered waterfalls, including beautiful Mikaeri-no-taki Falls. The contrast of the mystical blue of the river and summer greens and fall reds and golds of the forest above the sheer precipices is marvelous. |
